Why You Should Send Your Book Baby to a Small Press
We understand the labour of love. That’s why we’re here. Pure and simple. We love what we do and believe in the power of literature. When a small press editor reads a book submission, they consider the impact the book might have on the world first, then how to reach as many people as possible with the message. This means that the type of book the press publishes represents the social principles of the editors. The fit has to be right, and when it is, a synergistic and beautiful friendship occurs, which is exactly what you want for your Book Baby. This is why there are so many different types of small presses and with a bit of research you are bound to find one the rings true to your story. It is of utmost importance to me that the people we publish, as well as employ through freelance, are also everyday ambassadors of tolerance and true freedom. In fact, in the early days, I actually stopped a nearly published title (that ended up being published elsewhere and selling well) from going to print because the author did not hold the same social values that the press is trying to exemplify. Any regrets? Nope. None. Because my conscious is clear and the community of writers and artists that I’ve built around the press is one that I respect. This is tribute to how strongly small press publishers feel about the critical importance of work they are releasing into the world. A Book Baby is the book that says the thing you’ve always wanted to say. It speaks for you, through you, about you. And it deserves to be handled by a future friend who has its best interest at heart.
